How to proofread you reportage

What is proofreading?

Proofreading (sv: rättning) means that you’re double checking that there are no spelling, grammar or similar mistakes in your text. There are of course other aspects that you can take into consideration when you’re proofreading your text. For example the different points we have in the assessment matrix that is to say requirements of a reportage, structure and knowledge of the historical event.

How should I proofread?

Below you will find a checklist of things to look out for when you’re proofreading your reportage.

Does my text have:

  • a title? Does it capture the reader’s attention?
  • a date? Is it the correct date?
  • a name of newspaper?
  • at least two sources? Do my Internet sources have a retrieved date?
  • at least two interviews? Are they believable and creative?
  • a clear structure with an interesting introduction and conclusion? Are there various linking words that link the sentences and paragraphs together? Is there a common thread?

    • Examples of linking words: as a result, due to, in fact, undoubtedly, since, because of, such as, for instance, despite, however, similar to and compared to.

  • description of the historical event with my own words? Does my knowledge of the historical event show different views and consequences of the event?
  • any spelling or grammatical mistakes? Is the use of tense consistent? Does it have a good sentence structure? Is the language of the reportage formal enough?
