Make a video about formal and informal English

Formal English is for example used at a job interview.

In this assignment you will work with formal and informal English. One of the best ways to show that you have understood something is to explain it to somebody else. Therefore you are going to record a video about formal and informal English to teach other students to use a more formal English. The video should either just show yourself or your screen with a presentation and yourself in the corner (see picture below).

In this video you should:

  • Describe in which situations you use formal and informal English with examples. Think both about written and spoken English.
  • Describe the difference between formal and informal English with examples.
  • Give tips on how to develop a better formal English.

You could do the video yourself or together with another student.

  1. Then look at the learning rubric below to see what you have to do for the different grades.
  2. Read about formal English and watch the video below.
  3. Then search for ”formal and informal English” on Google and Youtube to find more material. Write notes and try to understand.
  4. Think about what should be in the video (see below).
  5. Make a structure – introduction, body and conclusion.
  6. Look at these instructions on how to use different apps to record your presentation.
  7. Record the video.
  8. Watch it and decide what could be done better.
  9. Record it again and decide if you are satisfied or if you have to do it again. Remember that it is very hard to make it all perfect and everything doesn’t have to be perfect to get a good grade.
